Be the Query Ninja: Selecting all the records that do not have an object

Query Ninja Let’s say you have a table of points and you want to identify any records that have not been geocoded. This can be done very easily with the Query > Select or SQL Select commands.

It is a straightforward process. All you need to do is use the condition not obj as can be seen in the following dialog box.

selecting not object

And for those that want a bit of an explanation… here goes.

The Not in this expression is one of the standard operators in MapInfo Professional (along with And and Or). Obj is short for Object and refers to the map objects in the table. You can think of Obj as being an invisible column in the Browser window. This invisible column holds the points, lines, regions, etc for the table. Not Obj does what it sounds like and selects all the records that do not have a map object.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy (as some British people like to say!)
