Easy Tip! A quick way to get summary statistics on a column
| || |
MapInfo Professional provides a super quick and easy way to get summary statistics such as the minimum value, maximum value, range of values, average value and more from a column in your table.
All you need is a table with at least one numeric column.
For our example we will use a table of demographic data from the United Kingdom. The following screen shot is of Output Area boundaries. Various demographic data statistics are included in the table.

Query > Calculate Statistics
To get a quick summary of one of the columns, use the Query > Calculate Statistics command.
Just choose the desired table and column and OK!
This capability can be used on an entire table or on a selection.
The purpose of the Calculate Statistics command is to provide a quick overview of a column of data in your table. For example, before creating a thematic map, it might be helpful to know the minimum and maximum values you are working with.
An alternative - use SQL Select
The SQL Select capabilities can be used to calculate summary statistics for one or more columns at once. In addition the result is in a temporary table that can be used in a Layout, exported or otherwise used as output.
This article "Getting Started with SQL Select" covers some of the basics on aggregating data.
